Fall is in the Kitchen

Little bits of fall have come to the kitchen...

I know I've shown you my little kitchen cabinet before.  But I couldn't resist taking some photos of it again this fall... it's one of my favorite things.  I remember taking three separate trips to the antique store before actually purchasing it because I wasn't sure it was the right piece for this spot. (smile)

I don't usually have anything displayed on my scale, but it was the perfect place for this little pumpkin.

This is still one of my favorite patterns and although I have these displayed all the time, the colors really are perfect for fall.

Scents of fall have also come to the kitchen.  When my blogging friend, Julia, over at Blissfully Content posted a recipe for these ginger cookies this week, I knew cookie making was going to be a part of our day!

Whenever I mention baking cookies to Jillian, she nearly jumps up and down with excitement.  She loves helping in the kitchen.

Yes, it means it takes quite a bit longer to cook something, but it makes me so happy that she takes such an interest in wanting to help.

These cookies were so delicious I could not help but want to share the recipe with you.  I love ginger cookies, and these are (and I'm not just saying this because I like Julia and her blog so much) the best I have ever had.  The only thing I did different was omitting the raisins, but you can find her recipe here

P.S.  Rosetta was also around and fortunately Daddy came home from work just in time to share some batter with her.  (smile)

  2. Awe, Daddy and the girls are all in the kitchen with you! No surprise. Cookie baking always brings the family in. Nothing better than a warm cookie just out of the oven! I just had my youngest daughter bake my gingerbread recipe the other week. I usually wait til Christmas, but the cider, and my hot Stash orange tea were begging for an accompaniment. They were delicious! Love your kitchen. I so want a makeover. New fronts, maybe one of those farm sinks and new counter tops would be wonderful. I'll keep wishing and dreaming, meanwhile I'll enjoy your beautiful one.

  11. You beat me to the punch on the cookie baking yesterday...Yes!! Julia inspired me.

However, I'm sitting here savoring yours - although I was wondering about the raisins -... by the looks of them and all these photos... I'm totally satisfied.

I'm loving that teacup with the berries tucked inside... nice pattern.

  16. The vignette on your gorgeous cabinet is the epitome of fall, Andrea! I love how your canned goods are all in fall colors, too. :) Reading this post has put me in the mood to bake cookies...hmmm...now the urge to bake competes with urge to laze about under a blanket tonight and watch TV. Ha!

  21. The feet! Oh, I miss little feet...
Going to make a cookie recipe this weekend I got from your mom's blog. Hope mine turn out as good as hers looked, even though I won't have any eager little-footed ones to help. (I will have big teen-agers who will help eat them, though!) :-)

  25. Jillian's hair has grown at least 5 inches since I first visited your blog a few months ago ? :)

I always love your photos BUT that tiptoe one of her little feet on the stool is priceless! I think that I look at your blog from a grandmother's eyes :)

  26. Okay from reading other comments, apparently I missed the new photo of you and that your mom has a blog. Yes I want the link also. The cookies look divine, and I have got to make some soon for the neighbors. Love your dishes, are they Spode? They look like it. I love Spode dishes, meaning I haven't seen a Spode pattern that I didn't love. I have the Spode Christmas dishes of course, Rose Chintz, their blue and white, brown and white, black and white and red and white transferware, and some assorted plates here and there.
